Sequences, Screens

The site-specific installation "Sequences, Screens" was commissioned by the Museum der Kulturen, Basel, and is now part of its permanent collection.
A screen can be defined as an "information surface". Although screens are two-dimensional surfaces, they often convey the impression of a three-dimensional reality that is, in a sense, accessible through the screen. This concept of the "virtual window" and "interfaces" points back to the Old High German word "skirm"—the term's etymological root—which referred to a primitive form of architecture: a shelter against rain, sun, and the elements. The installation reveals various sequences and potential stages as one perceives it while physically in motion.
