Sequences, Screens

The site-specific installation "Sequences, Screens" was commissioned by the Museum der Kulturen, Basel, and is now part of its permanent collection.
Four screens unfold in structure, colour, and dimensionality. The jacquard-woven works are based on a digital file. Every thread crossing stores this information and transforms it into textile material. The term "screen" is used iteratively in Schumann's work, rooting etymologically in "skirm"—one of the first and most basic forms of architecture—bridging to our daily use and touch of digital screens.
