Guiding Threads – Installation in public space

Textiles are one of the most important products of world trade. In Neuchâtel "indiennes" have been produced and left a rich legacy - cotton fabrics printed with colourful patterns based on examples from India. I used the installation to reflect on the history of textiles in relation to our bodies, our language and our heritage in almost every canton of Switzerland.

Embroideries were used to make some aspects tangible stitched using threads with industrial names like "Caribbean pink, Indian spirit or Imperial blue". In textiles we can also see the objects of violence, the division of labour and material exploitation or as historian Hans Fässler's states: "To what crimes is our wealth linked?

PanArt is curated by Gabriel Grossert and was made possible with great support of many foundations and donors, just to name a few to which we are thankful for their support: Zürcherische Seidenindustrie Gesellschaft, Canton of Neuchatel.
